In 1873, Mark Twain and Charles Dudley Warner dubbed their era the Gilded Age in America, characterizing the display of new wealth in America after the Civil War. Impressive homes like this one, now on the market for $50 million, were built for magnates like Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, and Cornelius Vanderbilt at the end of the 1800s.
